Marisa Labozzetta is the author of At the Copa, finalist for the John Gardner Fiction Book Award and Pushcart nomination, and Stay With Me, Lella. Her first short story, published in The Florida Review, won first prize in The Rio Grande Writers’ fiction contest and was a finalist in Playboy‘s Literary Award for Fiction. Labozzetta’s stories have appeared in many publications, including the best-selling When I Am An Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple, The American Voice, The Pegasus Review, The Penguin Book of Italian American Writing, Our Mothers Our Selves, Perigee, and American Fiction. Labozzetta has also taught college courses in Italian American Studies and fiction writing. Most recently, Guernica Editions published her novel Sometimes It Snows in America, a searing portrait of an African woman’s descent into an American hell, which finds its echo in the descent of her native Somalia into its own hell of violent desperation.
