Since being featured in filmmaker Michael Moore’s 2007 documentary SICKO, Donna Smith has emerged as a leading advocate for single-payer healthcare reform in the United States. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Colorado College with a degree in history and an award-winning journalist, Smith now works in the communications department of the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee and co-chairs the Progressive Democrats of America’s national “Healthcare Not Warfare” campaign. She also founded American Patients United, a non-profit group dedicated to educating citizens about health care reform and establishing universal, quality health care as a human right. She is currently writing Health Care and Me: Will America’s Leadership Listen When Patients Speak.
