Erika Blumenfeld
Internationally recognized photographer Erika Blumenfeld explores the subtle shifts in atmospheric, astronomic and environmental phenomena. The recipient of numerous grants, including a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2008, Blumenfeld was also accepted into the New York Foundation for the Arts' Fiscal Sponsorship Program for her ambitious work, The Polar Project, a series of environment-based installation artworks focusing on the distinct light, sky, and sound in the Arctic and Antarctica. In January, 2009, Blumenfeld served as artist-in-residence of ITASC (Interpolar Transnational Art Science Constellation) and SANAP (South African National Antarctic Program) where she produced several new bodies of work for The Polar Project. She is currently working on a book with journalist Dahr Jamail that documents the cultural, environmental and socioeconomic effects of the BP Gulf spill.
